Deconstructed Factory in Racine Wisconsin

One of the first factories that Urban Evolutions salvaged was the Simmons Furniture Factory, formerly Edison Millworks, a factory owned and operated by Thomas Edison. Our appreciation for the toil and sweat of factory workers and the character-filled structures that housed them, has lead us to continually seek to preserve both the materials and the stories those materials tell.

One of our more recent factory deconstruction projects was the J.I. Case Tractor Factory in Racine, WI. Like the 2 million board feet of old growth heart pine from J.I. Case, what factories uniquely offer is large quantities of a single species of wood, often structural in nature.  Scarred maple flooring from the factory floor is another one of the unique salvage opportunities we find valuable.
