FSC Certified Wood: Expanding Our Commitment to Sustainable Sourcing

Written by Admin | Nov 7, 2025 7:54:41 PM

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) provides the most rigorous international standard for responsible forestry. FSC® certified forests conserve biological diversity, water resources and crucial ecosystems.

The FSC® standard also upholds worker rights and supports economic prosperity in surrounding communities. The FSC® Chain of Custody certification ensures that certified wood products are tracked from forest to final product, adding legitimacy to the FSC® claim throughout the supply chain.

At Urban Evolutions, we’ve aligned with these values since our inception. While we do track our reclaimed, urban, and select harvest wood from origin to product, we recognize there are situations where FSC® certified wood is required or fills a need for our customers. FSC® certified wood is suitable for the following situations:

LEED Projects

FSC® certified wood products are valued at 100% of their cost for the purposes of credit achievement calculation.
Note: Reclaimed wood products are valued at 200% of their cost.

Living Building Challenge Projects

LBC requires that all timber used in the project be FSC® certified or reclaimed.

Supply Flexibility

FSC® certified wood may serve as a backup source for urban wood products. While we maintain a consistent supply with our partners, FSC® certification ensures your project stays on schedule without compromising your values.

Expanded Offerings

FSC® certification allows us to offer species or grades that may not be available from reclaimed or salvaged wood supplies in our area.
For 30 years, we have developed a network of local reclaimed and responsibly sourced wood suppliers, which offers confidence in our wood supply chain without formal certification. That said, we fully support the mission and vision of FSC® and are proud to add this source to our array of sustainable product offerings.
