Chicago Residence – A Showcase of What We Do with Reclaimed Materials

Everything that we do well, done well…

If we nominated a house of the year, this would be it!  We had the privilege of working with homeowners who blend crazy good taste and a love of “Materials with a Past”. From salvaged Convent tiles, Thomas Edison Factory Maple, to fallen trees from the yard, this home embraces so much that is good, possible and sustainable in building today. Equally important is that the homeowners, Architect, Builder and Urban team still had big love for each other when all was complete. The team of Scott Simpson Builders  and architect John Holbert set high expectations, and all of us delivered with out sacrificing passion and joy in the work.

Red & White Wines- Reclaimed Barn Board Fixtures | Chicago

We outfitted Red & White Wines, 1861 North Milwaukee Ave., Chicago with some amazing reclaimed gray barn siding rescued from 100 year old barns.  The reclaimed material is random widths 6″ – 10″ and used as cladding for wine, beer and spirit displays. The owners Sean Krainik and Nathan Adams chose our reclaimed materials to mirror what they value and sell – the space is natural, minimally altered and beautifully crafted.

Contact us for more information about our reclaimed materials and the furniture and fixtures we create.

Residential Project w/ David Easton | St. Agathese Monts, Quebec

When we received a call from David Easton’s office we tried to contain our excitement. This call was the beginning of a two house project over 4 years for one of Canada’s leading industrialists. The setting is St. Agathese Monts, Quebec. The first project was a contemporary / rustic home to fit in with the existing residence.  The spirit of this second addition was to capture the warmth of a weekend get away…  We provided antique white oak used for all of the doors and millwork as well as reclaimed fir salvaged from large red wine vinegar tanks for the ceilings.

The second guest house was a structure to replace the old dilapidated log cabin overlooking the lake. Our challenge was to find enough reclaimed hand hewn white oak logs to construct a log home that looked like it had been there for years. We also provided wide plank flooring from 1800’s barn floor and all of the lumber to make the doors, millwork, and cabinets.

After four years and 8 semi loads of reclaimed lumber this project was truly pleasure.  And we are very proud to say we had an opportunity to work with David Easton, one the world’s leading designers. [Read more...]

Installation Views: Our Reclaimed Rock Elm Flooring | UW Madison Union South

We were excited to be contacted by Workshop Architects of Milwaukee to provide reclaimed flooring for the new University Wisconsin Madison Union South.  We worked closely with HJ Martin on this sizable 16,000 sf project that is near and dear to our Wisconsin based company.

The reclaimed elm for this project was rescued from a few dairy barns in the Manitowac/Plymouth, WI area and a tobacco drying shed in Bosstown, WI.  Rock elm is an extremely hard wood, light in color with small chocolate brown knots and very little grain pattern, which takes darker stains very well. Common widths in this finished Reclaimed Rock Elm Floor are 4″ – 7″ and can be milled solid or engineered.

By rescuing wood from commercial demolitions and deconstructions we are able to offer you a superior grade of product, both strength and appearance, while following ecologically sound reuse and recycle practices.  We take great pride in being able to offer our customers products that are Made in America Again.
